Warren Coatings services the Gold Coast and South East Queensland and provides a range of spray applied applications in both polyurea and polyurethane.
When it comes to containment, bunds, water and waste applications, there are no better materials than polyurea
& polyurethane.
So lets speak about the benefits of polyurea & polyurethane.
Polyurea is an elastomer — an elastic substance that can occur naturally or be produced synthetically.
Did you know?? The word is derived from the Greek poly, which means ‘many’ and oûron, which means ‘to urinate.’ Urea is a substance that is also found in urine.
Polyurethane is also an elastomer. It is used to fashion materials that are flexible and highly resistant to breaking. This means the substance is often used in foam installation, tires, roller coaster and skateboard wheels, surface coatings and sealants, hard plastic parts and garden instruments, among other things.
Polyurea & polyurethane were used in the manufacturing of spandex — an elastic material that was created in 1959. Prior to that, polyurethane was used in Germany as early as 1937.
Two-component spray elastomers were first used in the 1990s. During that decade, a polyurethane/polyurea mix was used to spray bed liners and marine vehicles for the U.S. Navy.
The components are now widely used as coatings for large surface areas, such as truck and tank liners, tunnel coatings and more. They are also featured in containment.
Because they adhere well to concrete and steel, they are also often used in construction projects, and in spray molding and armor, such as personal and vehicle protection. The material is capable of protecting even large equipment against corrosion and impact.
Polyurethane is touted as an inexpensive, low-weight, water resistant alternative to other materials. It is resistant to violent impact and extreme heat, as well as oil, grease, chemicals and corrosive materials.
It is able to be turned into foam, which has been a selling point for the material in the past. It will bond to nearly any surface, including wood, metal and plastic. The material is also known for its fast drying time — uniform drying in as little as 30 seconds in some circumstances.
This is one of the most sought after characteristics of the material, since equipment sprayed with the mixture is able to be returned back to service in a rapid manner. This provides a cost and time effective solution to what could be an otherwise lengthy drying process.
Another feature of the material is that it can be applied to almost any surface, even if that surface features odd shapes or dents and holes.
Polyurethane has been compared to other materials in the past, including rubber, metal and plastic. Unlike rubber, however, the material is resistant to abrasion. Because polyurethane can be poured rather than molded, very heavy equipment is unnecessary for most jobs, which can also create a cost-cutting feature.
Polyurethane is lighter than most metals, and can usually be produced cheaper than metal. It also has a noise reduction capability.
The material is not brittle like many plastics. This means it can often be stretched and then easily returned back to its original composition.
